Featured Article and Interview about the Stumpjumper FSR 29er

"When I look at the Stumpjumper FSR 29er, something  I see ‘Every-man Weekend Warrior’ written all over it. It seems like the perfect companion for a ‘one bike’ solution that will work pretty well from a team 24 hour with the gang to a road trip to Moab to….whatever. Am I close? It does not seem like an all-mountain experience is the focus here, but it is more bike than the Epic."  To read the entire interview, click HERE!   You don't want to miss this great read!

Stumpjumper for 2010 Now Has Fox Made Brain/AFR Shock - RNR Cyclery OC

Fox-Made Brain/AFR Shock

This year, Specialized and Fox Shox teamed up to deliver a re-designed AFR rear shock with remote FlowControl Brain technology (Pro and Expert models) that is trail tuned for just the right balance of efficiency and responsiveness.  Specialized's signature suspension innovation, the Brain allows the Stumpjumper's AFR ShockĖ‡  to instantaneously transition between firm and fully active suspension settings depending on the terrain being covered.  With its new custom-tuned air spring the shock delivers enhanced small and mid-sized bump compliance, without a sacrifice to big hit performance.

  • The FSR frame delivers a suspension that can handle the rough stuff combined with a hardtail-firm pedaling platform on smoother terrain. Every element is optimized for the BRAIN shock.
  • The BRAIN shock (90mm travel), manufactured by Fox Racing Shox, consists of an air spring and an adjustable rebound. The spherical bearings all but eliminate all shock side loads.
  • The M5 Alloy tubing is state-of-the-art with ORE technology top and down tubes. Every tube is fully butted.

S14OTA Fork on Specialized 2010 Stumpjumpers

The Specialized-designed S14OTA fork (Pro Carbon model only) works together with the rear shock design to ensure balanced and optimized bump force management with 140 - 115mm of adjustable travel.  Features like the stiff 1.125" to 1.5" FACT carbon steerer/crown assembly, unique integrated dropout design and heavily revised lowers boost front-end-stiffness and steering precision. Brain Fade compression adjustment lets the rider dial in the right amount of firmness for the terrain. And externally tunable air cartridge increases the performance and consistency.

FSR by Specialized Bicycle Best for Control and Comfort

FSR Traction Means Control

When you increase traction you increase control.  Since FSR suspension is totally independent of the chain and brake loads, it is "active" or able to freely compress and rebound over every kind of bump, gully, and ground cover. Since the tires are now able to maintain contact with the ground a greater percentage of the time, the obvious follows:  More tread on the ground more of the time translates into greater control.

FSR Active Suspension Means Comfort

Active suspension absorbs bump impacts, reducing the forces that make it to your body.  It takes energy for your body to deal with jolts and vibration.  As these repetitive impacts are reduced, you have greater endurance and less fatigue.

What is All the Fuss About Specialized FSR? - Orange County's Rock N' Road Can Help Explain It

FSR Means Control, Efficiency, and Comfort

FSR separates the drive train and braking from the main pivot.  The patented approach provides a fully active and totally independent system.  The result is that  the rear suspension can compress and rebound without effecting other rider functions  (chain and brake forces).  The benefits are everything you could hope for.  You get increased control, efficiency and comfort with less fatigue.  100% of the torque you deliver to the chain moves the bike forward.  Nothing is lost to up and down motions.

Stumpjumpers for 2010 Offer Advance Frame Materials - FACT IS Carbon and M5 Alloy

If you want light and stiff the Stumpjumper Pro Carbon and Expert Carbon frames provide that combination like no other.  They are made of FACT IS 9m carbon.  FACT IS (Integrated Structure) is the most advanced carbon construction method devised by Specialized (and therefore probably by anybody), and delivers the ultimate weight to stiffness ratio.

The Stumpjumper Elite and Comp frames offer greater durability by using optimized M5 alloy tubing.  With this material you still minimize weight, but increase durability.  These two are the best performing trail bikes in their class.

2010 Stumpjumper FSR Mountain Bikes - Efficiency, Comfort, Control

Pick the trail your going to ride and with a bit of inspection we might all agree on the optimum bike for that degree of uphill and downhill, the size and nature of the bumps along the way, and the ground cover in-between the bumps. Throw in whether your goal is to simply have a great day in the sun, rain, or snow or if it is to set a new record for this course, and the complications start to mount.

Specialized says that this is what they had in mind with the Stumpjumper FSR line of mountain bikes. They knew you wouldn't be changing bikes depending on the ecosystem, so they built a bike that will change to fit circumstances on the ground.

Uphill or down, the 2010 Stumpjumper FSR combines 28 years of experience riding and engineering trail bikes, then testing and riding again. This year's lineup includes advanced FACT IS carbon, independent FSR suspension, a proprietary S14OTA fork, and bump-leveling Brain technology. The 2010 Stumpjumper FSR stands alone as the lightest, most capable XC trail bike the folks at Specialized have ever created.
